Jan Wessels to lead Faith2Share

The Trustees of Faith2Share are delighted to announce that they have appointed Jan Wessels as the new International Director. He will take up the post on 1 May 2018.

Jan succeeds Rev Canon Mark Oxbrow, who has led Faith2Share since it grew out of the Church Mission Society, and has overseen its development, over the past 18 years, into the vibrant international mission network which it is today. Mark will retire at the end of May.

Jan is Dutch, aged 57, and is married to Elizabeth (Beppie) Schuurman. They have four children: Peter, Rik, Matthijs, and Hanna and they foster two young Afghan refugee boys. Jan is qualified with an M.Th. He currently serves as Missions Pastor of Christian Reformed Church, Veenendaal.

From 2010 until April 2018 Jan served as General Secretary of MissieNederland, formed through a merger in 2013 of the Evangelical Alliance and the Evangelical Missionary Alliance in the Netherlands. Previously, from 1992 – 2010 Jan and Beppie served as missionary Church planters and trainers with the Reformed Churches in Botswana. He initiated and served in a number of national and all-Africa networks.

Jan Wessels said to the Trustees: “Thank you so much for putting faith in me as your new International Director. I really feel humbled and honoured and look forward to working with you all.”

Mark Oxbrow said: “I am delighted to be handing over the leadership of Faith2Share to an experienced mission leader who has a deep commitment to building relationships of trust and understanding. Jan will bring exciting new perspectives to this global network as it faces the challenges of growth and changing contexts in mission."

Bob Wilkes, Chair of Faith2Share Trustees, said: “At a recent Faith2Share International Leadership Consultation, I was given a strong sense that God is giving a precious gift to his Church through the relationships and collaborations enabled by Faith2Share. We are very grateful to Mark Oxbrow for his remarkable leadership, to Anton Ponomarev, Mark’s Associate Director for many years, and to all the staff and volunteers. The Trustees are deeply thankful to the Lord for leading Jan to us and us to him. We look forward to continued growth, deeper discipleship and new mission energy under Jan’s leadership.”
