African Mission Thinkers Gather in Nairobi

Faith2Share’s Timothy Mazimpaka brought together a number of missionary practitioners and thinkers in Nairobi recently to consider theological frameworks for African mission. Dr. Aila Tasse underlined the need to empower church plants in pioneer contexts and discussed the influence of the fear of ‘the other’. Duncan Olumbe gave a historical overview of mission in Africa and posed the question of how current African mission should be documented. Olumbe also delivered a talk on the cost of collaboration while inviting delegates to the higher calling of mutual love. Harrison Mungai outlined four possible approaches for funding mission: community-based fellowship; appeals for institutions; business-as-mission; legacies and sponsorship. The consultation is a significant example of Faith2Share’s work of fostering collaboration between mission leaders dedicated to disciple-making.
